Introduction

Folknoll are approved suppliers of Electric Locking Control, Video Intercoms and General Alarm Systems for the Prison Service.

All our systems are based on Siemens PLC equipment and as a Siemens Business Partner Folknoll are able to call upon their corporate support if required.

As a manufacturer of rugged Intercom and Videcom equipment, our standard solution offers the control of both the Locking and Videcom on one standard PC compatible Operator Workstation, thus speeding throughput and reducing desk space requirements.

Our fully integrated Security Management System (SMS) takes this concept further by integrating the control and monitoring of other alarm systems onto the one system, distributed by a standard TCP/IP network.

• CCTV Control
• Fire Release

The design of the system, including the software, is implemented in house and enable us to fully support the full system beyond it's specified cycle.

System Philosophy

Historically, as in most IT environments, the control equipment for Prison Locking Systems was based on proprietary consoles, manufactured in small quantity for specific projects.

In addition to the cost penalties naturally incurred with low volume manufacturing, however, this created difficulties in maintenance and support, leading to increased system "down time" which is unacceptable in the Custodial Environment.

Folknoll decided to simplify the whole process by standardising the equipment on PC compatible machines and peripherals. This also effectively reduced initial purchase cost and minimised the PPM and spares costs by ensuring that wherever possible, the hardware could be easily obtained.

The operator interface with the system is a Monitor, Mouse, PC Speakers and a Microphone, all of which are low cost replacement items. Communications between workstations are via standard PC networks.

All equipment is supported by standard UPS equipment. 

System Software

With over 20 years experience dating back to the earliest PLC based system installed in the Prison Service, our software is specified, written, tested and installed by our own engineers. We are in regular contact with HMPS to ensure that our systems fully comply with current specifications, and usually exceed these requirements.

Our Standard system is capable of controlling :-

• Gate House Pedestrian and Vehicle Locking Control
• High Security Perimeter and Compound Locking Control
• High Security Unit Locking Control
• Night Sanitation

As authors of our own software, however, we are able to adapt thes routines to any requirement.
